Summary Inflation Report Consumer Price Index (CPI) for All Income

Households in Albay (2018=100) August 2022

Albay

 

The inflation rate for all income households in Albay was recorded at 5.3 percent in August 2022. There was a decrease compared to the 5.6 percent from July 2022.

The year-to-date inflation for all income group of consumers in Albay from January to August 2022 is 4.0 percent. (Refer to Table A and Figure 1)
 

 

 

 

 

The Purchasing Power of Peso in Albay for August 2022 remained at Php 0.82 from July 2022. (Refer to Table 2.)

 

The inflation rate of CPI for August 2022 went down to 5.3 percent from 5.6 percent in July 2022. It was attributed with the slower monthly increment of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, at 5.1 percent from 7.3 percent and Transport, at 9.6 percent from 10.6 percent.

 

The majority of the major commodity groups still showed uptrend in the inflation rate. The increase in the inflation rate of these commodities are as follows:

 

a.    Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, at 4.3 percent from 4.2 percent;

b.    Clothing and Footwear, at 4.5 percent from 4.3 percent;

c.     Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, at 8.3 percent from 4.8 percent;

d.    Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, at 5.6 percent from 5.0 percent;

e.    Information and Communication, at 2.1 percent from 1.3 percent;

f.      Recreation, Sport and Culture, at 2.1 percent from 1.8 percent;

g.    Education Services, at 4.0 percent from 0.0 percent; and,

h.    Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, at 2.8 percent from 2.1 percent.

 

Furthermore, Health maintained its previous month’s inflation rate of 2.1 percent. Also, Restaurants and Accommodation Services remained at 0.6 percent while Financial Services at 0.0 percent from July to August 2022. (Refer to Table 3.)

 

The notable decrease of inflation rate for August 2022 was triggered by slower monthly increase of CPI of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages. Following commodities under Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages showed decline in the inflation rate:

 

a.    Food, at 5.2 percent from 7.8 percent;

b.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, at 6.4 percent from 8.6 percent;

c.     Fish and other seafood, at 6.4 percent from 13.6 percent;

d.    Fruits and nuts, at -6.9 percent from -2.1 percent; and,

e.    Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, at 7.5 percent from 24.1 percent.

 

The following commodities under Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages still shows increase in inflation rate:

 

a.    Cereals and cereal products, at 4.0 percent from 3.5;

b.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs, at 4.5 percent from 3.2 percent;

c.     Oils and fats, at 11.2 percent from 10.4 percent;

d.    Sugar, confectionery and desserts, at 22.2 percent from 15.8 percent; and,

e.    Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c., at 4.8 percent from 3.6 percent.

 

Decrease in inflation rate in Transport at 9.6 from 10.6 percent is brought about by the decrease in the inflation rate of Operation of Personal Transport Equipment at 27.3 from 38.4. Both Purchase of vehicles at 0.0 percent and Transport Services of Goods at 0.4 percent maintained its inflation rate from July 2022. Passenger Transport Services still shows increase in the inflation rate at 6.3 percent from 3.9 percent.

 

The uptrend in the inflation rate of Alcoholic Beverages, and Tobacco is brought about by the increase in the inflation rate of Alcoholic Beverages at 3.9 percent from 3.4 percent of the previous month whereas the Inflation rate for Tobacco remained 4.5 percent.

 

The increase in the inflation rate for Clothing and Footwear is brought about by the increase in the inflation rate of both of the commodity under this commodity group. Clothing at 3.5 percent from 3.3 percent and Footwear at 6.3 percent from 6.0 percent of the previous month.

 

For Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels the increase in the inflation rate is greatly influences by the significant increase in the inflation rate of Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 23.2 percent from 13.2 percent in July while the other commodities such as Actual Rentals for Housing at 0.0 percent, Maintenance, Repair and Security of The Dwelling at 5.9 percent and Water Supply and Miscellaneous Services Relating to the Dwelling at 0.0 percent have the same inflation rate with the previous month.

 

Most of the commodities under Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance have increased inflation rate with the exception of Tools and Equipment for House and Garden which retained its inflation rate of 3.8 percent. The following are the commodities under this commodity group that increased its inflation rate:

 

a.    Goods and Services for Routine Household Maintenance, at 6.7 percent from 5.9 percent;

b.    Furniture, Furnishings, and Loose Carpets, at 3.6 percent from 3.1 percent;

c.     Household Textiles, at 2.6 percent from 2.4 percent;

d.    Glassware, Tableware and Household Utensils, at 2.6 percent from 2.4 percent; and,

e.    Household Appliances, at 2.4 percent from 2.3 percent.

 

Information and Communication have increased inflation rate as well which is contributed by the increase in the inflation rate of Information and Communication Services with inflation rate of 2.4 percent from 1.1 percent while the Information and Communication Equipment maintained its inflation rate of 1.6 percent from previous month.

 

For Recreation, Sport and Culture, the increase in the inflation rate is affected by the increase in the inflation rate of Garden Products and Pets at 4.0 percent from 3.7 percent, Newspapers, Books and Stationery at 3.3 percent from 2.7 percent; and Other Recreational Goods at 1.3 percent from 1.1 percent while the other commodities such as Recreational Durables at 5.8 percent, Recreational Services at 0.2 percent, Cultural Goods at 0.0 percent, Cultural Services at 0.0 percent and Package holidays at 0.0 percent, maintained the inflation rate of the previous month.

 

All commodities under Education Services have increase inflation rate. Early Childhood and Primary Education at 2.9 percent from 0.0 percent, Secondary Education at 8.5 percent from 0.0 percent and Tertiary Education at 1.4 percent from 0.0 percent of the previous month.

 

The increase in the inflation rate of Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services is greatly influenced by the increase in the inflation rate of Personal Care at 3.1 percent from 2.3 percent and Other Services at 8.6 percent from 0.0 percent. The Other Personal Effects maintained its inflation rate at 1.2 percent from the previous month.

 

Health maintained its inflation rate at 2.1 percent with majority of the commodity also maintaining its inflation rate from previous month. Medicines and Health Products at 2.5 percent, Outpatient Care Services at 2.9 percent and Inpatient services at 0.2 percent. Only Other Health Services have increased inflation rate at 0.9 percent from 0.2 percent.

 

All commodities under Restaurants and Accommodation Services maintained its inflation rate. Food and Beverage Serving Services at 0.6 percent and Accommodation Services at 0.0 percent.

 

Financial Services maintained its inflation rate at 0.0 percent. All commodity under this groups has same inflation rates with last month. Refer to Table 4 for the actual inflation rate for each commodity under these commodity group.

The recorded inflation rate of CPI for August 2020 was 7.0 percent. The inflation rate decreases at 5.3 percent for year 2021. By August 2022, the inflation rate for consumer price index maintained at 5.3 percent.
