Consumer Price Index for all Income Households in Bicol Region: July 2019

The Bicol Region’s Inflation Rate in June 2019 decelerated further to 2.8 percent.
Compared with the 7.4 percent Inflation Rate in the same period last year, the July 2019
Inflation Rate was lower by 4.6 percentage points.
The movement was attributed to the Inflation Rates of the following
Commodity/Service groups: Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 19.7 percent to
20.1 percent) and Education (from -20.6 percent to 7.2 percent)
On the other hand, the heavily weighted Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages
went down (from 1.1 percent to 0.2 percent) and also with Clothing and Footwear (from
6.0 percent to 5.8 percent), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from
6.6 percent to 5.9 percent), Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance
of the House (from 6.2 percent to 5.9 percent), Health (from 5.1 percent to 4.6 percent),
Transport (from 1.7 percent to 0.4 percent), Communication (from 0.7 percent to
0.4 percent) and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from 6.0 percent to
5.1 percent). Meanwhile, Recreation and Culture did not move and lingered at 2.9 percent.
Across provinces, Inflation Rate in Catanduanes eased at 0.7 percent, Camarines
Norte at 2.1 percent, Camarines Sur at 3.5 percent and Masbate at 1.5 percent while Albay
and Sorsogon accelerated at 3.1 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively.
On a Month-on-month bases, the general prices of consumer items slightly
increased at 0.1 percent.
Increment was noted on the prices of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from
-0.2 percent to 0.0 percent), Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco (from 0.6 percent to
0.7 percent), Clothing and Footwear ( from 0.2 percent to 0.3 percent), Furnishings,
Households Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House (from 0.2 percent to
0.9 percent), Recreation and Culture (from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent), Education (from
2.9 percent to 3.7 percent) and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from
0.0 percent to 0.2 percent).
However, prices went down on the following Commodity/Service Groups; Housing,
Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 0.6 percent to 0.3 percent), Health (from
0.5 percent to 0.3 percent) and Transport (from -1.4 percent to -2.0 percent) while
Communication stayed the same at 0.0 percent.
With all the observed price changes in CPI, the Purchasing Power of Peso in Bicol
stood at 0.83. Across provinces, Catanduanes at 0.85, Albay at 0.83, Masbate at 0.82 while
Camarines Sur at 0.81 and Camarines Norte at 0.80 while Sorsogon flexed at 0.87
