PRICE SITUATION: YEAR-ON-YEAR
The Bicol Region’s inflation rate in October 2019 accelerated to 1.5 percent.
Compared to the 8.9 percent inflation rate in the same period last year, the October 2019
rate was lower by 7.4 percentage points.
The movement was attributed to the Inflation Rates of most of the
Commodity/Service groups: Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 40.9 percent
to 39.7 percent), Clothing and Footwear (from 5.3 percent to 5.1 percent), Furnishings,
Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House (from 4.5 percent
to 3.2 percent), Health (from 2.9 percent to 2.3 percent), Recreation and Culture
(from 2.6 percent to 2.5 percent) and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services
(from 4.1 percent to 4.0 percent).
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from -3.5 percent to -1.9 percent), Housing,
Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 3.0 percent to 3.4 percent), Transport
(from -0.2 percent to 1.1 percent), and Communication (from 0.3 percent to 0.5 percent)
were the commodity groups to go up.
Education remained the same at 8.5 percent.
Inflation Rate in Albay is the highest in the region at 2.8 percent. Camarines Norte
and Sorsogon posted higher inflation rate than that of the region at 2.7 percent
and 2.1 percent, respectively. The rest of the provinces posted lower than that of the region.
Camarines Sur at 0.7 percent, Catanduanes at 0.3 percent and Masbate at 0.2 percent.

On a Month-on-month bases, the general prices of consumer items went down at
The movement was due to the decrease in prices of these commodity groups.
Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 10.3 percent to 2.9 percent), Clothing and Footwear
(from 0.6 percent to 0.4 percent), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels
(from 0.4 percent to 0.3 percent), and Recreation and Culture (from 0.5 percent
to 0.1 percent).
On the other hand, prices went up on the following Commodity/Service Groups:
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from 0.2 percent to 0.6 percent), Transport
(from -0.2 percent to 0.3 percent), Communication (from zero percent to 0.2 percent), and
Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from 0.2 percent to 0.3 percent).
Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House
(0.2 percent), Health (0.2 percent) and Education (0.0 percent) remained the same.
With all the observed price changes in CPI, the Purchasing Power of Peso in Bicol
remained at 0.82. Albay stood at 0.81, Camarines Norte at 0.79, Camarines Sur at 0.80,
Catanduanes at 0.84, Masbate at 0.82, and Sorsogon at 0.87.
