Consumer Price Index for all Income Households in Bicol Region: October 2019

PRICE SITUATION: YEAR-ON-YEAR
 
The Bicol Region’s inflation rate in October 2019 slightly accelerated to 0.7 percent.
Compared to the 9.9 percent inflation rate in the same period last year, the October 2019
rate was lower by 9.2 percentage points.
The movement was attributed to the Inflation Rates of most of the
Commodity/Service groups: Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance
of the House (from 5.3 percent to 4.5 percent), Health (from 3.9 percent to 2.9 percent),
Transport (from 0.9 percent to -0.2 percent), Communication (from 0.4 percent to 0.3
percent), and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from 4.2 percent to
4.1 percent).
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from -3.8 percent to -3.5 percent),
Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 29.8 percent to 40.9 percent), and Housing, Water,
Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 2.6 percent to 3.0 percent) were the only commodity
groups to go up.
Clothing and Footwear, Recreation and Culture and Education remained the same
at 5.3 percent, 2.6 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively.
Inflation Rate in Camarines Norte is still the highest in the region at 2.3 percent.
Camarines Sur and Sorsogon posted higher inflation rate than that of the region at
0.8 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively. The rest of the provinces posted lower than that
of the region. Albay at 0.6 percent, and Catanduanes and Masbate both at -1.1 percent.
 
PRICE SITUATION: MONTH-ON-MONTH
 
On a Month-on-month bases, the general prices of consumer items went up at
0.6 percent.
The movement was due to the increase in prices of these commodity groups.
Prices went up on the following Commodity/Service Groups: Food and
Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from 0.1 percent to 0.2 percent), Alcoholic Beverages and
Tobacco (from 9.3 percent to 10.3 percent), Clothing and Footwear (from 0.3 percent to
0.6 percent), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from -0.7 percent to
0.4 percent), and Recreation and Culture (from 0.2 percent to 0.5 percent).
On the other hand, prices went down on the following Commodity/Service Groups:
Health (from 0.5 percent to 0.2 percent) and Transport (from 0.1 percent to -0.2 percent).
Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House
(0.2 percent), Communication (0.0 percent), Education (0.0 percent), and Restaurants and
Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.2 percent) remained the same.
With all the observed price changes in CPI, the Purchasing Power of Peso in Bicol
remained at 0.82. Albay stood at 0.82, Camarines Norte at 0.78, Camarines Sur at 0.80,
Catanduanes at 0.84, Masbate at 0.83, and Sorsogon at 0.87.
