Consumer Price Index for all Income Households in Bicol Region: September 2019

PRICE SITUATION: YEAR-ON-YEAR
 
The Bicol Region’s inflation rate in September 2019 further decelerated to 0.2
percent. Compared to the 10.1 percent inflation rate in the same period last year, the
September 2019 rate was lower by 9.9 percentage points.
The movement was attributed to the Inflation Rates of most of the
Commodity/Service groups: Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from -1.7 percent to
-3.8 percent), Clothing and Footwear (from 5.5 percent to 5.3 percent), Housing, Water,
Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 3.8 percent to 2.6 percent), Furnishings, Household
Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House (from 5.7 percent to 5.3 percent), and
Transport (from 1.7 percent to 0.9 percent).
Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 19.2 percent to 29.8 percent), and
Recreation and Culture (from 2.5 percent to 2.6 percent) were the only commodity groups
to go up.
Health (3.9 percent), Communication (0.4 percent), Education (8.5 percent), and
Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (4.2 percent) remained the same.
Inflation Rate in Camarines Norte is the highest in the region at 1.2 percent.
Camarines Sur and Sorsogon posted higher inflation rate than that of the region at 0.9
percent and 0.7 percent, respectively. The rest of the provinces posted lower than that of
the region. Albay at zero percent, Catanduanes at -0.7 percent, and Masbate at -1.7 percent.
 
 
PRICE SITUATION: MONTH-ON-MONTH
 
On a Month-on-month bases, the general prices of consumer items were the same
at 0.2 percent.
The non-movement was due to the increase and decrease of these commodity
groups.
Prices went up on the following Commodity/Service Groups: Food and Non-
Alcoholic Beverages (from -0.1 percent to 0.1 percent), Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco
(from 0.1 percent to 9.3 percent), Clothing and Footwear (from 0.2 percent to 0.3 percent),
and Health (from 0.1 percent to 0.5 percent).
On the other hand, prices went down on the following Commodity/Service Groups:
Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 0.1 percent to -0.7 percent),
Transport (from 1.5 percent to 0.1 percent), Recreation and Culture (from 0.3 percent to
0.2 percent), and Education (from 1.1 percent to 0.0 percent).
Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House
(0.2 percent), Communication (0.0 percent) and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and
Services (0.2 percent) remained the same.
With all the observed price changes in CPI, the Purchasing Power of Peso in Bicol
was down to 0.82. Albay stood at 0.83, Camarines Norte at 0.79, Camarines Sur at 0.80,
Catanduanes at 0.85, Masbate at 0.83, and Sorsogon at 0.88.
