The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will conduct the October 2020 Labor Force Survey (LFS), Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF) and Awareness on Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) survey from 8 October - 31 October 2020. For Catanduanes, a total of three hundred eighty six (386) households from thirty (30) sample barangays will be interviewed by eight (8) hired Statistical Researchers of PSA Catanduanes.
The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households that gathers data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. Its objective is to provide a quantitative framework in the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market. Moreover, it also provides statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment and underemployment in the country and regions.
Results of July 2020 LFS shows that Bicol Region registered an employment rate of 90.9% which is lower compared to recorded 95.1% in July 2019 and relatively higher compared to registered 84.3% employment rate in April 2020. Unemployment rate in Bicol Region was registered at 9.1% in July 2020 which was higher compared to registered 4.9% in July 2019 and lower compared to recorded 15.9% in April 2020 while underemployment rate was recorded at 23.3% in July 2020 which was lower compared to 25.6% registered in July 2019 and 27.4% registered in April 2020.

The objectives of SOF are to obtain national estimates on the number of overseas Filipinos including overseas workers and their socio-economic characteristic and to provide estimates on the amount of cash and in-kind transfer received by the families and mode of remittances. For the purpose of the survey, only those family members who traveled outside of the Philippines within the period October 2015 to September 2020 for any reasons are included.
The PCC is a newly-constituted independent quasi-judicial body mandated to implement the national competition policy, and enforce the Philippine Competition Act or R.A.10667, which serves as the primary competition law in the Philippines for promoting and protecting competitive market. The purpose of the rider survey for PCC is to track how the extent of knowledge, perception, and attitudes of consumers have evolved and to guide PCC in designing strategies to enhance its advocacy, and to educate the public on the relevance of market competition.
The authority and mandate of the PSA to conduct the survey emanates from R.A. 10625. Like any other surveys undertaken by the PSA, the data to be gathered in the said survey are for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms. Information obtained from the respondents are held STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and are not used for investigation, taxation and law enforcement purposes and are not be divulged to any person except authorized PSA personnel acting in the performance of their duties.
