PSA Catanduanes conducts training on the Use of Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) to the eleven Statistical Researchers hired to collect weekly municipal/commercial fisheries survey. Statistical Analyst Molod and Assistant Statistician Rodriguez served as trainers held today, 29 April 2025 at PSA Catanduanes Training Hall. Twelve traditional sample landing centers in the province are visited weekly to interview at most ten fishermen unloaded their catch in a specific day per week.

The Municipal Fisheries Survey covers fishing activities within 15 kilometers from the shoreline, involving the use of boats with three gross tons or less or none at all. Through this survey, PSA gathers data on the volume and price of species unloaded in municipal landing centers. On the other hand, the Commercial Fisheries Survey involves fishing operations conducted beyond 15 kilometers from the shoreline, using vessels with more than three gross tons. This captures data from commercial landing centers using the same indicators.

PSA emphasizes that the success of this survey hinges on the quality of data collected. As such, the agency assures all respondents that all information shared will be treated with strict confidentiality. Under Section 26 of Republic Act No. 10625, any individual data provided to PSA is considered privileged information and is inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding. PSA releases results only in the form of aggregated summaries or statistical tables, ensuring no identification of any individual, institution, or business.

The data generated from the Fisheries Survey are vital inputs for the compilation of national accounts, valuation of agricultural and fisheries production, policy development, and research and program implementation.
