Births born to teenage mothers reached 9,661 in 2023 

In 2023, a total of 9,661 births to teenage mothers were registered in the Bicol Region. The number of registered live births increased by 1.8 percent from the 9,487 registered births in 2022.
 

Figure 1 shows the number of births to teenage mothers in Bicol Region from 2015 to 2023. The most number of registered births was recorded in 2016, with 12,679, reflecting a 1.4 percent increase from the previous year. However, the following years showed a consistent downward trend from 2016 to 2021. The most significant declines occurred in 2020, with 9,592 births or 14.5 percent decrease, and in 2021, with 8,265 births or 13.8 percent decrease, respectively. In 2022, an increase of 14.8 percent in the number of registered births was noted, rising to 9,487. The increment continued into 2023, with a slight rise of 1.8 percent to 9,661 registered births.
 

From 2015 to 2023, the number of teenage pregnancies in Albay showed some fluctuation with a general downward trend, followed by an increase towards the end of the period. The most number of recorded births was recorded in 2016 with 2,429 while the least was in 2021 with 1,520 births. A total of 1,740 births to teenage mothers was registered in Albay in 2023. 
 

Figure 3 shows the number of births to teenage mothers in Camarines Norte. The data shows a general decline in registered births and indicates that while there is an overall downward trend, the numbers do not decrease consistently every year. The most number of registered births was recorded in 2015 with 1,866 while the least was in 2021 with 1,204. A total of 1,431 births to teenage mothers was registered in Camarines Norte in 2023. 
 

Figure 4 shows the number of births to teenage mothers in Camarines Sur. The number of registered teenage births peaked in 2015 with 4,191 and a general decline up to 2021 with 2,660 registered births. A slight growth in 2023 was noted with 3,056 registered births. 
 

Figure 5 shows the number of births to teenage mothers in Catanduanes. From 2015 to 2016, the number of births increased from 630 to 726, showing a 15.2 percent rise. After the increase in 2016, the number of births generally declined from 726 in 2016 to 437 in 2021, representing a 39.8 percent decrease over this period. A total of 460 births to teenage mothers was registered in Catanduanes in 2023. 
 

From 2015 to 2023, the number of teenage pregnancies in Masbate showed some fluctuation with a general downward trend, followed by an increase towards the end of the period. The most number of recorded births was recorded in 2016 with 2,006 while the least was in 2021 with 1,331 births. A total of 1,706 births to teenage mothers was registered in Masbate in 2023. 
 

Figure 7 shows the number of births to teenage mothers in Sorsogon. From 2015 to 2023, the number of births fluctuated and peaked at 1,684 in 2016, the highest number of registered births during the presented period. A significant decline from 2019 to 2020 was observed, with registered births dropping from 1,468 to 1,229, suggesting a 16.3% reduction. A total of 1,268 births to teenage mothers were registered in Sorsogon in 2023, a slight increase of 0.6 percent 
from 2022.

Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such a birth is considered liveborn.
