The average farmgate price of cereals increased during the fourth quarter of 2023. The average farmgate price of palay, other variety fresh, increased from P14.52/kg to P19.98/kg this quarter. Similarly, the average farmgate price of green corn, white increased from P23.63/kg to P25.68/kg. Meanwhile, the average farmgate price of corn, matured yeloow, decreased from P19.31/kg in the fourth quarter of 2022 to P17.92/kg in the same quarter of 2023.

The average farmgate price of gabi tagalog, sweet potato, and cassava fresh tubers for food was more expensive this quarter compared with the same quarter of 2022. The average farmgate price of gabi tagalog and sweet potato went up from the average farmgate price of P17.83/kg to P20.04/kg and P19.99/kg to P35.00/kg, respectively. The average farmgate price of cassava fresh tubers for food also increased from P7.84/kg to P10.08/kg. Likewise, the price of cassava fresh tubers for industrial use increased from P9.64/kg to P10.81/kg this quarter.

Higher price in the average farmgate price of peanut with shell, fresh was posted during the quarter. The price of peanut with shell, fresh was registered at P60.36/kg, higher by P10.18/kg compared with the same quarter in 2022. In contrast, the average farmgate price of stringbeans (long) was posted at P30.18/kg, lower by P18.96/kg compared with the same period in 2022.

Most vegetables posted lower price during the fourth quarter of 2023. The average farmgate price of ampalaya to P48.15/kg, eggplant long purple decreased to P30.45/kg, okra to P30.87/kg, squash to P11.73/kg, and pechay native to P42.86/kg. Meanwhile, the average farmgate price of camote tops increased to P23.61/kg.

Higher farmgate price of fruits was observed this period. The average farmgate price of banana, green saba increased to P10.47/kg from P10.32/kg. Likewise, the farmgate price of papaya hawaiian increased to P16.55/kg from P14.19/kg. Similarly, the average farmgate price of pineapple hawaiian increased from P15.76/kg to P19.98/kg this quarter. Meanwhile, price increase was also noted for pineapple formosa with average farmgate price of P14.58/kg. In contrast, the average farmgate price of banana, green latundan decreased from P17.82/kg to P17.04/kg and calamansi from P49.72/kg to P28.73/kg.

Lower price of most industrial crops was noted during the quarter. The average farmgate price of coconut green young(buko) went down from P6.13/kg to P5.24/kg. The average farmgate price of coconut matured also went down from P6.29/kg to P5.59/kg. Likewise, the price of pilinut with hull decreased from P21.45/kg to P13.90/kg. In contrast, the average farmgate price of abaca increased from P63.92/kg to P69.49/kg during this period.
