Male is 2.23% more than female household population in Albay

In the province of Albay, males constituted 50.6% (695,486) of the total household population. The females comprised the household population by 49.4% or 679,282 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH). This means that males dominated females by 16,204 or 2.3% and translates to a sex ratio of 102 males in every 100 females.

Rapu-rapu has the highest male to female ratio

The municipality of Rapu-rapu had the highest sex ratio of male to female among the three (3) cities and 15 municipalities in the province.Rapu-rapu posted a sex ratio at 108 males in every 100 females. Further, Jovellar and Manito also had high sex ratio both with 105 males per 100 females.

Moreover, sex ratio in the City of Legazpi, Daraga and Polangui had a minimal difference in number of male to female household population which both municipalities posted a sex ratio of 100 males for every 100 females. 

 

More Women than Men reach the age of 60 year old and over

For age group 60 years old and over, female comprises the larger portion of the population of about 57.0% or 72,797 persons. Compared to female, male constitutes 54,857 persons or 43.0% in Albay based on the result of 2020 CPH. This data shows that more female live longer than the male counterpart.

The City of Legazpi has the most number of female senior citizens in the province.

As to the total female household population with age 60 and over, the City of Legazpi contributed the largest portion with 10,676 persons or 14.7%. This was followed by Daraga with 10.2% and City of Tabaco with 9.7% shares.

Almost half of the female population is in reproductive age

In the province of Albay, 49.9% or 339,092 of female household population were in reproductive age 15 to 49 years old based on 2020 CPH results. This also represented 24.7% of the total population in the province. This means that 25 females in every 100 population in Albay were on childbearing age.

Old dependency ratio of female is higher than male  

The overall dependency ratio in the province was computed at 61, which indicates that there were 61 dependents for every 100 working-age or economically active population. The females were 59.3% more than the male dependents in age group 65 and above. The 2020 CPH results revealed that there were six (6) females and four (4) males in old dependents. However, dependency ratio of male was higher than female counterpart in young population (15 and below), about 27 males and 25 female young dependents in every 100 working age group.

The municipality of Rapu-rapu has the highest dependency ratio

Among the three (3) cities and 15 municipalities in Albay, Rapu-rapu had the highest dependency ratio at 71. This was followed by Libon (70) and Manito (67). Meanwhile, Daraga had the lowest dependency at 55 and followed by City of Legazpi and Sto. Domingo recorded at 56 and 58 respectively.

More than half of registered live births are male in Albay in 2022

Based on the total live births born by women residents of Albay in 2022, 52.6% babies were male and 47.4% were female. Further, the male live births in Albay in 2021 comprised 22.0% of the total live births in Region V, while, females are 21.4% of the total births in the region. (Figures 5 and Table 3)

More male deaths than female deaths recorded

In 2022, total registered male deaths were 1,238 or 28.7% higher than female deaths in Albay. The share of registered male deaths was 56.3% in the number of registered deaths in the province and 23.7% in Bicol. This means that in every 100 registered deaths in the province, 56 of them were males. Moreover, the female death records in Albay had 45.0% share for province while 23.8% share to total registered deaths in Region V.

 

More women marry at young age than men  

Based on the registered marriages in the province of Albay in 2022, there were more women than men that marry at young age. About 3.3% of females and 0.7% of males legally married before they reached 20 years old. On the other hand, more males (1.1% or 70 Males) got legally married at the age 60 and above than women (0.3% or 20 females). Both men and women have the highest number of marriages at age group of 25 to 29. 
 

 

Municipality of Polangui recorded with highest number of couples marry at age below 20 years old In Albay, a total of 257 males and females are legally married before they reached the age of 20 years old were registered in 2022. Among the three (3) cities and 15 municipalities in the province, Polangui recorded the highest number of young marriages with share of  16.7% or 43 out of 257 total registered marriage. This was followed by City of Ligao (15.6%) and Libon (9.7%), respectively.

About 18% of the agricultural operators in Albay are females  

The 2012 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) results revealed that there were females engaged in agriculture and fishery operations. Female accounted for 18.03% (19,235) of the total agricultural operators 10.90% (151) were aquaculture operators, and 1.15% (114) were municipal fishing operators in the province of Albay. The total number of female operators in three (3) different types of business operations accounted to 19,500 or 16.53%.
