Republic Act No. 11055 or Philippine Identification System Act of 2018 was established to have single national identification system. It aims to improve the lives of all citizens and residents of the Philippines by making access, delivery and administration of government and private sector services more secure and more responsive to people’s needs.

Pursuant to PhilSys Policy and Coordination Council (PSPCC) Resolution No. 30 series of 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has officially rebranded Philippine Identification System to National ID System. Since the creation of RA 11055, the “PhilID” was used as the term for the physical card. The term “National ID” will now be used to promote broader acceptance and use among the public as it is universally recognized and understood. Aligned with this rebranding, various formats shall be recognized as National ID Card, National ID in Paper and Digital National ID. Moreover, the PSA in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched the Digital National ID with its website: national-id.gov.ph and the National ID eVerify and National ID Check through everify.gov.ph. This initiative is a communication strategy to increase the adoption of the country to digital economy as more Filipinos receive and download their National IDs.

Identified terms shall be replaced in line with the rebranding such as PhilSys Card Number (PCN) to National ID Card Number; PhilSys Number (PSN) to National ID Number; PhilSys Registration Center to National ID Registration Center and from #IDNatinTo to #NationalIDPH as the official hashtag of National ID System. The PSA and PSPCC commits to strengthen efforts to widen the understanding of the functionalities and benefits of the National ID through intensive information, education and communication campaigns.
