01 February 2023 – LEGAZPI CITY. Pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 affirmed by President Corazon C. Aquino on 28 January 1991, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) celebrates the 33rd Civil Registration Month this February 2023. The annual observance serves as a reminder to all Filipino citizens to register vital events—Births, Marriages, and Deaths and other acts that concern their status. This year’s theme,PSA@10: Providing Efficient and Effective Civil Registration and Vital Statistics through Digital Transformation, emphasizes responsiveness and adaptability following the global trends of digitization and digitalization.

The PSA Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) V, spurred on by favorable conditions in travel and mobility, pursues better progress in promoting awareness and appreciation of the importance of civil registry documents which suffered setbacks during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The office ushered in one of the agency’s busiest months with a Eucharistic Celebration followed by a motorcade which was participated by 51 individuals from 15 government agencies and Local Civil Registry Offices in Albay, as well as RSSO and PSA Albay staff members. The procession of vehicles looped the busy streets of Legazpi City to announce the commencement of the Civil Registration Month. The RSSO also opened a small exhibit featuring vital statistics in Region V at the lobby of the RSSO Building in Rawis, Legazpi City. The same exhibit is also displayed at the ground floor of SM City Legazpi. Both are open to the public for the entire month of February.

In the coming weeks, the regional office is set to organize a poster-making and an oratorical contest for basic education students. A quiz bee and a lecture on Civil Registration updates for RSSO V and LCRO personnel are also in the pipeline, while a symposium for stakeholders will keep interested and relying parties abreast of the latest in Civil Registration. The agency will also take advantage of this month-long celebration to carry out a Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) project, conduct mobile registration, and attend to invitations for lectures and mass weddings.

Despite a full schedule every February, the Civil Registration Month has always been commemorated with vigor and enthusiasm. The PSA maintains a continuous commitment to advocate for and support the improvement of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics.
