The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has officially launched the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (2024 POPCEN-CBMS) to gather comprehensive demographic and socioeconomic data across the Philippines. This significant activity commenced with extensive training sessions starting in April 2024 and will involve data collection efforts continuing through September 2024. The goal is to provide accurate and actionable information for government planners, policymakers, and administrators to enhance social and economic development.
The Census of Population (POPCEN) is a detailed process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing, publishing, and disseminating data about the population. This includes listing and recording the characteristics of each individual and each institutional living quarter (ILQ) as of a specified time and within a specified territory, supporting government efforts to develop effective social and economic plans. The Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) is a technology-based system for collecting, processing, and validating disaggregated data at the local level. By enumerating all households within a community, the CBMS generates key development indicators on health, nutrition, housing, education, income, employment, and peace and order, facilitating local planning and impact monitoring.
Extensive trainings have been conducted to ensure the successful implementation of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS. The Barangay Profile Questionnaire timeline of activities began with the task force training at the PSA Complex on 15-20 April 2024, followed by provincial-level training at PSA Catanduanes on 6-11 May 2024. PSA Catanduanes conducted an orientation for the punong barangays and their representatives from 20-24 May 2024, ensuring that local leaders are well-informed and prepared to support the census activities. Distribution and data collection of questionnaire has already done, with data processing currently ongoing. The Household Data Collection and Geotagging task force training was held last 27 May to 3 June 2024, and provincial-level training from 17-22 June 2024. Municipal-level training is scheduled this coming 8 to 12 July 2024, with data collection starting on 15 July 2024. To manage this extensive fieldwork, the PSA will employ over 191 enumerators, 33 team supervisors, and 12 Census Area Supervisors.
The entire survey effort is overseen by 8 supervisors from field office, led by CSS Anavi F. Camacho, ensuring efficiency and accuracy throughout the process. PSA is committed to deliver an accurate and reliable data through 2024 POPCEN-CBMS which will significantly contribute to informed decision-making and strategic development, benefiting communities across the country. PSA encourages everyone to cooperate fully with the enumerators and supervisors during household visits. Together, we can gather the data necessary to create a better future for all. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
