
In the 4th quarter of 2024, Sorsogon Province recorded a total production volume of 41,164.43 metric tons (mt), reflecting a decrease of 34.43 percent or 21,616.70 metric tons compared to the same quarter in 2023. The total harvested area for palay also declined by 17.92 percent, with a final estimate of 11,735.50 hectares in the 4th quarter of 2024, down from 14,298.43 hectares in October to December 2023.
Likewise, the average yield per hectare decreased by 20.11 percent, reaching 3.51 mt/ha for all crop types in the 4th quarter of 2024, compared to 4.39 mt/ha in the same quarter of the previous year. The significant decline in production, harvested area and yield for palay in the 4th quarter of 2024 was attributed to the effects of typhoons Kristine, Marce, Nika, Ofel, and Pepito, as well as adverse weather conditions experienced in the province. These factors led to flooding the rice fields, resulting greater damage to both cultivated areas and palay grains.
66.88% of the total harvested palay area in the province of Sorsogon was irrigated

Out of the total palay area harvested in the province of Sorsogon for the 4th quarter of 2024, 7,848.37 hectares, equivalent to 66.88 percent, were irrigated, while 3,887.113 hectares or 33.12 percent, were rainfed . These areas were cultivated with hybrid, inbred-certified, and farmer’s/ good seeds palay varieties.
Corn production in Sorsogon decreased by 18.36 percent in the 4th Quarter 2024

A decrease of 18.36 percent, or 23.88 metric tons, was observed in the total corn production accounted to 106.20 metric tons for the 4th quarter of 2024, compared to 130.08 metric tons in the same quarter of 2023. Additionally, the area harvested for corn decreased by 10.34 percent, or 6 hectares, compared to the 58 hectares recorded last year. Furthermore, the average yield for corn also declined by 8.70 percent, dropping from 2.24 MT/ha in October to December 2023 to 2.04 MT/ha in the same quarter of 2024.
Sorsogon harvested white Corn from 69.23% of the Total Corn Area in the Province

The total area harvested for corn in Sorsogon province for the 4th quarter of 2024 was 52 hectares. Out of this, white corn accounted for 69.23 percent, totaling 36 hectares, while yellow corn accounted for 30.77 percent, equivalent to 16 hectares.
